A Night Out + hair and makeup

On Saturday night we went out to dinner with 11 other people. Two had just graduated with their Bachelor's degrees so this was like a celebration dinner and a Christmas party in one.

We had a wonderful dinner in a restaurant which normally would be way too expensive for a student budget.

I wanted to do something special with my hair because I never do anything. I don't know how to do different hair styles well.

At the blogger meet up we were given a lot of hair products and today I tried the sweetest one: Tigi BedHead Totally Baked Volumizing and Prepping Hair Meringue. Oh my goodness it smells sweet!!! It's like lemon meringue. Yummy!

I put a small plum size dollop on my hand and applied it to towel dried hair. I blow dried my hair and used a round brush.

My hair is fine and there is usually hardly any volume.

I tried to take the front pieces of hair and braid them. Then I took a comb and backcombed in the crown area. I decided to do a side ponytail. I did the ponytail first, and then braided the front. I wanted to use the front part to conceal the hair tie, but that didn't work, so I had to do the ponytail again, this time with the braided front hair. And that's when I messed up more as my hair had no volume and the backcombing didn't work out. Sigh. Did I say I can't do hair??

I used some kind of a heat protectant that was also a shaper and then with a curling iron I got amazing curls for the first time in my life! They were perfect. I took this picture at the end of the night. The weather was horrible, rainy and horrible. The curls stayed for the most part, until the end when we left cause it was raining really heavily and I did not have an unbrella. . I added a ton of hair spray before we left from home.

I did my makeup with Wet n' Wild shadows.

First, I applied UDPP, then Painterly Paint pot by MAC. Then I used the matte skin colored color of the Vanity palette (leftmost palette) on the browbone area. I took the browbone color of the Petal Pusher palette (right) and applied that a little on my crease and above it, but so that it did not cover my whole browbone.

I applied the matte light pink from the Lust palette (middle) to the inner half, and then the crease color from the Petal Pusher palette to the outer half. I deepened that outer half by adding the darker purple from the Lust palette. I used the darkest purple from the Lust palette in the crease and outer V.

Picture do not do any justice to the makeup. It was darker than it looks here. I took these pictures after the night when we got home.

I added 2-3 extra lashes. They don't look like they would be in the right spot. First I put 1 coat of Estee Lauder's lengthening mascara, then two coats of Maybelline's Colossal volume mascara. Only Estee Lauder on the bottom lashes.

Both eyes.

I used Sensai's black liquid eyeliner, and then on the waterline MAC's Blacktrack fluidline.

I just noticed that my contacts makes it look like my eyes have rings on them. I don't remember that happening in pictures with my old contacts. These are new and they correct astigmatism. (And after a quick Wikipedia search, lenses that correct astigmatism are toric lenses, they have two different powers in two orientations.)

I got quite a few compliments on this makeup. I really like it too!

What do you do on a night out?

Tigi Totally Baked hair product was given to me. Opinions are my own. Makeup I bought myself.

EoTD - September 6 2011

What I am wearing today.

Something very simple.

Just did my eyebrows, put some purple pencil eyeliner by Lumene, added some black eyeliner to the outer parts because plain purple would look too odd.. The black adds volume to my lashes. ;)

I used Maybelline's One by One mascara in black.

And a picture of both eyes.

Purples for May

So. Now I am finally done with my university courses for this spring. Depending on my work schedule, I might do some courses during the summer. I still haven't decided. I don't know when the courses begin, I don't know do I have the time with work.

This purple look was for the eve of May Day (May 1st). I went out with my friends in our colored overalls that represent our study fields in our university. Mine aren't purple, but I tried red makeup and that didn't turn out well, so I removed it and did this.

I used NYX jumbo pencil in milk and purple at least.

Purples from Manly 120 palette. Probably like 5 different purples at least.

Do you like it?

Not for daily use.

I posted a preview of this a couple weeks ago, saying I'd post the whole tutorial the following weekend. Yeah, I didn't. Sorry about that! I used the Manly 120 palette in this, and NYX's jumbo eyeshadow pencils.

Tutorial

First I applied a primer and then as a base I used NYX's jumbo eyeshadow pencils in Lemon and Purple.

I took a picture of my Manly and numbered them for personal use. Now I will use the same numbers here, I'll post a picture of the whole Manly so that you can see what colors I used. The numbers are explained with each picture.

I put 112 and 114 like this:

Then I added a highlight. You can use whatever you like for this. Then I applied a lighter purple, 88, a little over the purple 112, and on the Lemon jumbo pencil.

I took greenish shadows 4 and 10. 4 I placed in the innermost corner, 10 next to it, more on the lid.
I took a blueish purple, 35, and placed that on the line of the purple 88 and green 10.

I decided to add alittle more green to the border of green and purple. This time it was green 39.

I used a kajal liner in black on the top and bottom waterlines, and added mascara.

I took some black 114 and green 39 on a pencil brush and placed that on the lower lash line. Then I also blended the purple some more...

I added crazy lashes...

... that I wore for Halloween (I was Morticia Addams), but this time they had gone bad, and refused to function properly, so I threw them out after I took the pictures... Also the glue wasn't good anymore. Those two reasons are why the lashes look all weird, cause I didn't manage to place them properly.
Definitely not using that glue anymore... or this brand lashes... I want more than 1.5 uses out of them.

Finished look!

Thoughts?

Guess what my boyfriend said about this? He came home and said that "I'm going to say this now so that you believe me later, you've looked prettier." I didn't expect him to ask me to do my makeup like this every day, but I didn't expect what he said. Then  a while later before going to sleep he asked me if I got insulted by his words. I did and I didn't. You know? I don't expect him to say something about blending or something, but I expected something like "I like the colors" or something. He knows and I know I wont use makeup like this on a daily basis. This was for this blog for new years. I don't know. I can't remember what I felt that day, cause it was a while ago. I did this on like the last or the second last day of 2010...

How black & purple appear green & purple.

A look.

MAC Delft paint pot on the lid. Grimas matte black, about 5mm up from the lash line, kind of a liner. Shimmery black gray by NYX (trio eyeshadow palette Rock & Roll) about 5mm above the matte black.

Shaded Orchid by Glamour Doll to the crease, outer corner and lower lashline.

MUS black gel eyeliner. Black mascara. Shimmery golden beige as a highlight.

PS. Really, NO green shadows used at all. Delft paint pot by Mac brings the green.

Hope you like it! I'm lovin' it.

May 12th - EOTD

Just a quick post before I'm going to my friends house to watch a game.

This is what I had on today. My obsession, GDE shadows. ;)

Electric Lemonade, inner half. Shaded Orchid outer half.

Fast, simple and pretty.

These pictures I took after a rather lond day in school. I usually take the pictures right after I'm done with doing my makeup but today I thought I'd show you how my makeup looks in the end of the day.

What do you think?

An abnormal look by GDE

See this is what I'm doing instead of working on a presentation that I need to send to the other people in my group, or doing homework, or studying in general. Or working. I'm the master of procrastination.

First GDE Premonition to the whole lid on top of NYX jumbo pencil Milk + primer.
Skin toned matte eyeshadow to soften Premonition's outlines.

GDE Olivia Green to the lower lash line.

GDE Electric Lemonade to the inner and outer corners + tearduct area. It does go a little higher in the outer corner than the purple Premonition.

Coastal Scents gel eye liner Maroon.
Shimmery golden beige as highlight.

I'm not entirely sure what I think of this look.

Tutorial - For May Day party? A look by Glamour Doll

I remember always using the same two color pencils at my grandma's house when I was little. They were a purple and a turquoise-greenish that I thought went so well together. That is what this look reminds me of. Maybe the combination of those two colors is still in the back of my head as the best combination ever.

On Friday all the students in this country put on their overalls (yes, student overalls that are different for each major and different for each university) and party all night long. And on May 1st as well. I need a special look for that, and this is one of my options. I twitpicced about this last night and Lovely Violet asked me to turn it into a tutorial, which I then did. :)

Ta dah!

I only used Glamour Doll eyeshadows. Which reminds me I still haven't received my GDE order, eventhough it was sent before the Coastal Scents order that I got on Tuesday. They were sent a day before the CS stuff, with the same shipping system thing whatever it is. Stupid volcano in Iceland. :/ I really hope my order hasn't gotten lost...

I used Disco White, Island Chic, Glam Girl and Urban Trash.

I applied a primer and then NYX jumbo eyeshadow pencil Milk.

Then some Disco White to the inner corner and tearduct.

With a fluffy (blending) brush I applied Glam Girl to the outer 2/3 of the lid.

Island Chic is an eyeshadow that I have not found a great way to use yet. I guess the shade is a little difficult with my skintone, so I'm still testing, but I think this is alright.

Applied Island Chic to the lower lash line with a pencil brush. That actually was a little too big for this use, but it's better for the crease.

Urban Trash, which is a matte black, to the crease only, not much to the outer corner, even though it kind of does go there a little bit, but that can be seen better from the picture below.

I used Ben Nye's black cake eyeliner.

Max Factor's False Lash Effect as mascara.

Then I put some black liner on my lower water line.
